Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki was founded in 1970 and consists of five Schools: Administration and Economics School, School of Health and Medical Care, School of Agricultural Technology, School of Technological Applications and School of Food Technology and Nutrition. These Schools include 23 Departments and two programmes for elective education operate. The Institute community numbers 430 academic personnel, 220 administrative employees and approximately 18.000 students.

OHS is a key research topic for the institute, due to the fact that it combines the disciplines of all of its Schools (Technology-Engineering, Economics, Health) and is frequently combined with food safety. Particularly schools of Health and Administration & Economics are continuously involved in research in OHS. The Institute has developed a number of partnerships with other research institutions interested in OHS from within the country and abroad. In addition ATEITH regularly collaborates with distinguished researchers of the Hellenic Institute for Occupational Health and Safety. The institute has collaborated in funded OHS research projects with some of the participants of the Consortium (CERTH, SWUNR).
